Red Dot Compatibility Tool: Which Optic Fits Which Pistol?

How This Works

Red dot mounting comes down to matching two things: the footprint machined into the optic's base, and what your slide, plate system, or mount accepts. Pick both below — the tool returns the exact plate or adapter that connects them, with the source we verified it against. No guessed answers: unverified combinations say so.

The Footprint Families (Verified)

Everything the tool knows, browsable — each optic and pairing links its source.

How We Verify

A pairing enters this database only when the plate, adapter, or direct fit is confirmed by manufacturer documentation — Aimpoint's published plate line, Steiner's official compatibility list, Burris's mounting guides, or the measured footprint database at Optics Trade. Body-clearance exceptions (same footprint, different housing size) are flagged where we've verified them. Spot an error or a missing combination? Tell us — corrections get priority. For the deeper background, see our Docter/FastFireand ACRO/MPS footprint guides.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which footprint my pistol slide is cut for?

Check the pistol manufacturer's optic-ready documentation — plate-system pistols (Glock MOS, M&P CORE, and similar) list which footprints each numbered plate supports, and direct-milled slides name their cut (RMR, RMSc, ACRO). When in doubt, the plate or cut name is in your owner's manual. Never guess from photos: several footprints look alike but differ in screw spacing and recoil-boss geometry.

Can I put an ACRO-footprint optic on an RMR-cut slide?

Yes, with an RMR-to-ACRO adapter — Primary Machine and Strike Industries both make one, and both appear on Steiner's official MPS compatibility list. The caveat with every adapter: added height, which can lift the optic above your iron sights. Direct plates are always the cleaner path when they exist.

Why does this tool say "not yet verified" for some combinations?

Because we only publish pairings we have confirmed against manufacturer documentation — the same standard as everything else on this site. Combinations we haven't verified yet get flagged honestly instead of guessed. The database grows in verified batches; if your combination is missing, the footprint tables below still tell you what standard each side uses.

Do same-footprint optics always interchange?

On flat plates, yes. In form-fitted housings, not necessarily — the classic trap is the Burris AR-F3 mount, shaped around the FastFire body, which a same-footprint Vortex Venom physically won't fit inside. Body dimensions matter beyond the screw pattern; the tool flags the known cases.
