The Short Version

P365 COMPACT/Shield RMSc and SIG-LOC are different interfaces. SIG says an RMSc slide has raised bosses; SIG-LOC has flush screw holes. A SIG-LOC slide can mount both the dedicated bottom-mounted ROMEO-X SIG-LOC Compact and top-mounted Shield RMS-C optics. An older RMSc-only slide cannot mount the SIG-LOC optic, so backward compatibility works from the new slide to older optics—not from the new optic to older slides.

SIG-LOC does not replace Shield RMSc in the usual sense. It adds a new bottom-mounted interface while preserving an older top-mounted optic route on the new slide.

The last row describes filler plates only. SIG explicitly warns not to treat cover screws as optic screws.

The One-Way Compatibility Rule

SIG’s current SIG-LOC P365-XL slide page says the slide accepts both SIG-LOC Compact and Shield RMS-C footprints. Its dedicated ROMEO-X SIG-LOC Compact page says that optic is exclusive to SIG-LOC-ready P365 slides.

So the compatibility graph is:

  • RMSc optic → COMPACT/RMSc slide: yes
  • RMSc optic → SIG-LOC slide: yes, with the RMSc top-mount route
  • SIG-LOC optic → SIG-LOC slide: yes, bottom-mounted
  • SIG-LOC optic → COMPACT/RMSc slide: no

That final “no” is the purchasing mistake this generation change can create.

Why SIG-LOC Exists

SIG says the SIG-LOC interface establishes five contact points to reduce zero shift under recoil and impact. The optic sits low, uses a longer focal-length design, and retains a standard-height iron-sight picture. Those are manufacturer design claims; Optics Intel has not independently impact-tested the system.

The practical buying difference is clearer than the performance claim: only a SIG-LOC slide unlocks the dedicated bottom-mounted optic.

How to Identify the Slide

Use section 13.7.2 of SIG’s current P365 operator manual:

  1. Unload and clear the pistol.
  2. Follow SIG’s field-strip and filler-plate procedure.
  3. Raised bosses = COMPACT/Shield RMS-c.
  4. Flush screw holes = SIG-LOC.

If buying online, use the exact SIG SKU or require a clear under-plate photo. “New P365,” “optic ready,” and even “FUSE” are not cut names.

Which Route Should You Choose?

Choose RMSc on either supported cut when you want the broadest optic selection and easy transfer between compatible carry pistols. The ROMEO-X Enclosed Compact is SIG’s own enclosed RMSc option; Shield and other manufacturers also serve the pattern.

Choose the ROMEO-X SIG-LOC Compact when you positively own a SIG-LOC slide and specifically value its low, five-point, bottom-mount design. It is a less portable optic choice because SIG limits it to SIG-LOC P365 slides.
